Thanks to a doctor at the J.M. de los Rios Children Hospital in Caracas the foundation became aware that children with diabetes mellitus did not have glucometers or strips to measure their sugar. The board decided that it was imperative to provide the aid requested. A written commitment was made to the children hospital in Caracas through Ms. Yvonne Sarmiento, an attorney who became the foundation’s volunteer representative in Caracas. All of foundation’s projects begin with a document of understanding with the hospital receiving the assistance. This is the document with the J.M. de los Rios Hospital:
The foundation, besides inducting two Medical Doctors into the Board of Advisors, sought the advice of Dr. Scott Clements, M.D. at the Pediatric Endocrinology Department of the Primary Children Hospital in Utah. The recommendation was to obtain True Metrix glucometers from Trividia Health in Florida. Trividia Health was contacted and the foundation receive the best price—usually given to organizations like the Red Cross—for the devices. 48 glucometers were sent, and two shipments of 30,000 strips each have been provided to those who received glucometers. Also 5,000 lancets. The glucometers were given to the Foundation of the J. M. de los Rios Hospital in Caracas—the main Children Hospital in Venezuela. Also, directly to the Endocrinology Department of the Hospital. The pictures below show those receiving the help. Receipts were obtained and calls were made to the families to ascertain that the glucometers had been received. Some of the documents are shown.

Crucial to this help is that the way has been found to send help from the USA to the Hospital in a non-assuming way, without attracting any attention.
